That's What I Thought

Yesterday, I suggested that the vote Congressman Blumenauer cast against the war-funding bill this time around, in contrast to his vote for the same bill last time around, was because the education funding had been taken out.

I pointed out the incongruity of a supposedly anti-war stance that depends on education funding.

Today, Representative Blumenauer is quoted by the Oregonian as having exactly that motivation.

"I cannot support a bill that spends ($33 billion) in Afghanistan while denying $10 billion for teacher jobs, $1 billion for summer youth employment, $5 billion for Pell grants, and $701 million for border security," Blumenauer said after the vote.

In other words, Earl Blumenauer will vote for or against war funding, depending on the teacher jobs, summer youth employment, Pell grants, and border security funding.  Give him his piece of the pie, and voting for war funding is just fine.
