He's Got Cover
When the war funding bill came through the House of Representatives a few weeks ago, the Republicans objected to the Obey Amendment which added educational funding. They voted, almost to a man, against it.
But that was just the moment then, for real opponents of the war to vote against the funding. What? You oppose the war, except if a few dollars are added for education? Then you're for it?
Representative Blumenauer voted for the funding.
Well, since then the bill went to the Senate and the funding was taken out, and it today was voted on in the House, without any educational funding. That meant that a great many Republicans, in this case 160 of them, would vote in favor of the funding of the war.
Now that passage was assured, Blumenauer voted against.
Oh, yes. The Kucinich-Paul bill came up today as well: would the House direct the President not to send troops into Pakistan?
Blumenauer, who has voted with the Democratic leadership more than 97% of the time, voted against the bill directing the President not to send troops to Pakistan. Some anti-war firebrand he is, eh?
